[UNITED STATES COLORED TROOPS]. CDV of three officers, identified on verso as 54th Massachusetts Infantry, USCT. Boston: J. W. Black, ca 1860s.
CDV on cardstock mount with verso imprint crediting image to J. W. Black of Boston. Verso also bears pencil inscription identifying subjects as, "officers of the 54th MA African American regt."
Featured are three young white males wearing shell jackets with great coats over top, and holding their forage caps, two of them having visible regimental numerals encircled by bugle devices, along with company letters affixed to crown. These devices designate 54th infantry, Company D.
We could not confirm the identification of the subjects, though a similarly posed trio of soldiers identified as officers of Company C, 54th Massachusetts Infantry, are featured in a tintype curated by the Library of Congress, though uncredited.
